Poem: “The Poet”

That’s when I knew the feeling was mutual;

When you hummed my favourite symphony, the feeling was unusual.

With my arms on your shoulders you tied my lace,

You stood up and slipped me your warm embrace.

My preferred poetry is the one that you write.

That time you brought your beloved snack and snuck me a bite.

When you cried after we watched a romcom, something you swear you’d never do.

There’s no hesitation or confusion when it comes to you.

You handed me your shoes when my feet were battered,

Spoke life into me when my dreams were shattered.

So many thoughts running through my head.

You always make me breakfast in bed,

And then made me breakfast in bed.

You’re always happy to please;

Especially when you’re on your knees.

You always find a way to prove you love me the most.

Your love is so humble, it does not boast.

It shows so much patience and tenderness towards my heart.

I’ve grown to understand the commitment you’ve had from the very start.
